Club members participate in civic beautification programs throughout Scugog. These volunteers have been planting the garden at Nestleton Hall since 1979 and the two flowerbeds at Port Perry Hospital (Lakeridge Health Corporation) for more than 15 years.
The Pine Ridge Garden Club hosts the Annual Scugog Spring Garden Show at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre, Port Perry. This 2-day event, held the 3rd weekend in April, offers visitors a great line up of speakers, a judged flower show, daily demonstrations and a great variety of vendors, exhibitors and specialist societies. Proceeds from the show have helped support local horticultural projects such as; Reflection Park in Port Perry, Serenity Gardens at Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre in Oshawa, Blackstock Cenotaph and the Roy E. Carter Memorial Park in Blackstock. Bursaries are offered yearly to a student pursuing a career in horticulture, botany or environmental studies at the two local high schools. Each year proceeds also support cash awards in the Flower and Vegetable classes at both local fall fairs
In late May our volunteers are busy organizing the annual Plant, Bake and Yard Sale. Each year members of the community eagerly await this event. Great buys on plants, baked goods and garage-sale finds are quickly sold out.
